hack of the month
 

i think the hack of the month should not be placed in announcements forum. nobody reads the announcements (that's my personal opinion). i do browse almost every single post here at vB.org and i see that nobody pays attention to posts displayed in announcements. why? because most of people think is the same news we all read on the main page.

i would do this:
create a new forum called: [high]what's HOT or COOL[/high] and place there interesting events related to vB.org, hack of the month, competitions, etc.. something to spice-up the community. let me know what you think.

Good idea, but I would make it so that only mods and admins can post there. Otherwise, you will get people posting all sort of little cool and hot things.

exacly. the forum should work the same way as the announcements.

And then, after a week or so, no one will read that forum either -- according to your theory. :)
The announcements forum is there so people know important stuff is there.
