Template Help

Ok, I have ask once before but I still cannot get it to work... so my question. How would I get this to work

eval("\$modifybit = \"".gettemplate("sec_modifybit")."\";");

when I do to the mina template it shows nothing at all.... I dont know why either... does anyone have a suugestion on how I can get this to work when it is called?
