is this possible? members love avatars but quite a few have complained about how slow the pages load. think someone could come up with a mod to allow each member an option to view avatars or not?

I can write you a hack (of my avatar hack), it won't be nice with install scripts though as that takes time I don't have. I can see how you have a problem considering the sizes of the images of your avatars. They are a wee bit large...
