How do you decrypt the password of a member? I'm the admin on my forum and want to view member's password but it came up something really weird..something more like this 940e958c1cb2816883b569fb1f3f643b instead of the real password...

You can't. That's the point of encrypting in the first place.

Gutspiller 02-01-2002 02:17 AM

wait wait wait. what if my forum is doing that to some peoples passwords, but I have 2.0.3 that doesn't encrypt passwords and I haven't installed a hack that does. Why is MINE doing that?

I thought it was screwed up, and one of my users even reported that their password was something they didn't set it too, and they had their friend that was part of the board, PM me and that's what they said their password looked like.

I don't like it, especially when they are having problems registering with it.

Did somebody slip this into a hack and didn't tell me that's what I was editing?

Gutspiller,

No offense but your forums are hacked beyond recognition - meaning that I have no idea what is going on with all the code changes you've made. Unfortunately this is one of the risks of constantly hacking and rehacking a forum. One hack, in and of itself, can work fine. But when combined with other hacks sometimes unintended consequences may develop. This may be one of them. I do wish you luck in fixing the problem though.

Gutspiller, you have probably installed a hack that messes with user registration, that has the MD5'ing procedure in it, so it got into your file.
It's one thing to run an outdated version... but to install hacks that are specifically NOT for that version?

Gutspiller 02-01-2002 03:03 PM

Well, I want some hacks..... and well to be a little blunt, a lot of the hackers will only make the cool hacks for newer versions, so I have to take a chance and install all the hacks that I want. I guess I never thought that they were causing other problems. If I saw that the hack itself was working, I thought it was working properly. :( I wish more hackers would be more willing to make hacks for older versions too. Some of us just have too many hacks installed to upgrade our vb foundation.

I only have a few more hacks though and I will have my board set. The rest of my hacks, are sorry to say going to mess with some of that foundation giving mods more rights to ban people so I don't constantly need to watch my forum. I guess that's what happens when other forums want to pick a fight with you, but if they want I fight, I will give them one. :)
