My company is seriously considering using vB for replacement of our Prospero boards. However, I would like to post a hack request and see if anyone is interested in helping. If not, we may not go with vB. vB tech support says the hack does not exist, but is doable. However, I am not able to post the hack request . I guess since we do not own vB yet.

Any ideas or help would be appriciated.

Thanks

Brian

Why don't you just ask in general terms if that particular feature is possible? I'm sure they wouldn't axe that if you asked it.

What exactly is the hack you want?

OK, here's the hack.

Currently VB has an "ignore" feature that a user can use to block seeing posts from particular users. Prospero had a similar feature, they called if a "bozo flag," however. Also, Prospero had a different take on it. So, this is my hack request. Make the ignore flag apply at the admin level. Meaning, if an admin flags a user as ignore, no one but that user can see the posts. That way, the user thinks they are still posting...and they can see their posts. However, no one else can. It will then make the user usually fall back into line or just leave the board since no one wants to respond to them.

We have used it several times on our boards with great success. We feel it is an excellent way to control users that are causing problems. Since they still see their posts, they are either less likely to create a new account and continue or it takes them longer to do it.

Any thoughts...???

Thanks for letting me post this message here. After much thought this weekend, I think I have settled on VB for our site. I love the community here and all the hacks that are possible.

I think I could definitely attempt that for you. Let me look into it.

A Beta version of this hack exists:
