First, I would really like to have a welcome mail setup that works independently of the email verification stuff.

Beyond that, It would be nice to post a welcome note automatically in a new member sign in forum. Just an added way to get people involved from the beginning.

Maybe the best way to do it is to just post the message, and send a note to the member as if the post was a reply to a thread they opened. That way the welcome note would be public, but also alert them that it's there. Am I making sense? :)

as for the new post, I guess you could write a new function which calls the add new post function, but you specifiy what the message says.... I'd have to look at the code more closely to see exactly how that could be done!
