vb 4.2.4 with PHP 7

Hi

I have vbulletin version 4.2.4 and I want to use wordpress in my site, so I have to upgrade PHP version to 7.2 as they mentioned in their site.

The problem here is that vb 4.2.4 don't work with PHP 7.2 as I know, so what I have to do?
The first solution on my table is upgrading to vb 4.2.5 but there is some issues, first can vv 4.2.5 run smoothly with PHP 7.2 because there is a note in member area tells that vb4.2.5 works with PHP until 7.1 not 7.2!!

The second issues, what about all the plugins and products that I'm using now? are they working with PHP 7.2? and if not, is the fixing of tem to make them compatible with PHP 7.2 is a bg issue?

Thanks in advance.

I have heard that some have found they can use PHP 7.2 with vB 4.2.5, with error messages turned off to suppress warnings.

As far as products, that really depends on how they were written. Some will work just fine I would think, while others will require editing to update deprecated functions, etc.

The latest WP doesnt require php 7.2, it runs fine on php 7.0, just an FYI.

Yes, or at least you will get errors. You may be able to suppress them or you may actually break stuff, especially addons. vBulletin 4.2.5 is only "certified" compatible with PHP 5.6.x and up to PHP 7.1.x.

The good news is that WordPress doesn't require PHP 7.2. It will run just fine on PHP 7.1.x or even PHP 5.6.x.
And in response to your statement that WordPress says they require PHP 7.2, at https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/foru...93#post4396493

No. What they say is:

To run WordPress we recommend your host supports:

PHP version 7.2 or greater.
MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.0 or greater.
HTTPS support

But just below that, they also say:

Note: If you are in a legacy environment where you only have older PHP or MySQL versions, WordPress also works with PHP 5.2.4+ and MySQL 5.0+, but these versions have reached official End Of Life and as such may expose your site to security vulnerabilities.
The reality is that I run several WordPress sites on my server using PHP 7.1.x and I also maintain WordPress sites for other people on servers using PHP5.6.x. There are no issues with those PHP versions.

Thank you djbaxter, I think there is no problem with duplication when it happened in different sites!!
