Help: If Condition to Match username to field

Hi, I'm trying to match usernames in posts to a field, but neither one of these seems to be working correctly:

<if condition="$show['username'] == $bbuserinfo['fieldX']">



<if condition="$show['username'] == $bbuserinfo['fieldX'] & 1">

Is there something else I can try?
