Preparing upgrade to 4.2.5

Im currently running a 4.2.3 board, and are now in the planning phase for a https upgrade, so a 4.2.5 upgrade is necessary.

The thing that troubles me is the modifikations i have done. No hardcoding to the system files have been done, but templates have been changed, like additional.css and a few others.

1. How do i keep these canges?

2. I run 3 different themes and logos. Will they stay the same after upgrade or will it be back to default?

3. I have custom language settings. Will they be reverted to defaut?

Please advice.

Upgrade will only replace files and master templates. All your settings and mods remain the same.

Thanx. What templates qualifies as master templates?

Make a backup

Create a dev setup and upgrade it

Make a backup

Update production with what you've learned
4.2.3 to 4.2.5 isn't going to break much ;)

The upgrade is easy but the switch to https may be more difficult depending on what you have going on there. You may need to make some manual changes, add replacement variables, etc.

I dont have to much going on actually. We have a hosted dedicate server, so the providor will fix everything server side. And from what i understand only minor adjustments are necessary in the forum settings.

It depends on your plug ins, pictures, etc. I had to manually change a ton of stuff and it took awhile to get everything working well. I have done a couple sites with no issues at all and a couple nightmares.

If you don't see the ssl lock in your browser use this: https://www.whynopadlock.com/

Thanx, that looks like a tool that can come handy later in the process for sure.

I only run a few plug-ins, non of them very important, so i will disable, start them one by one and go from there.

We have no picture storage, only allow for pasted code. Is this a potential culprit?

RichieBoy67 05-03-2018 08:55 PM

Absolutely... Any of those images hosted on a domain without an ssl certificate will show that particular page without the lock.
