The short answer is:

This site does not exist to showcase the latest version - that is for www.vbulletin.com/forum.
This site exists to provide third party modifications.
As such it is itself 'heavily modified' and it would be an absolute ton of work to upgrade it.

You expect me or others to do your bidding?

Are you going to code it free of charge? The developers are a little busy at the moment.

The two people who more or less built and maintained this site are no longer with the company.

That leaves you and anyone else who wants this site to be vB5.x.

Start coding. Let us know when you have it ready.

The bottom line is there is absolutely nothing this site cannot do with the current software that it could do with vB5. The purposes of upgrading are to patch security holes or to fix bugs or to improve functionality. The only people on this site who need vB5 are the ones who are developing add ons or modifications for it, and aside from Glenn Vergara, that is virtually no one. Since users have to have their own valid licenses to use their own software to develop third party add ons or modifications this site being vB5 serves no means to those ends either. The continued insistence that this site "needs to upgrade to vB5" is based upon nothing of logic, reason, or substance.

Also, it's tax season and Max is in a bad mood.
