Attachment Thumbnails in CMS Comment

We want to be able to show attachment thumbnails in the CMS comments instead of just a text link. At the very least can the link keep the filename instead of a generic attachment ID? I've seen a few posts dating back over a decade for people requesting this but I have yet to find a solution; I even tried to find the core file/plugin to modify the code myself but I'm in over my head. In case there's any confusion I've attached a screen grab. Any help would be appreciated.
