Customization/MOD for Forums (Threads List)

Can anyone tell me best way to modify/MOD which help me to customize

Forums Last Post By Section

At present Last Post by section on forums/Thrads list show only name of last poster and date

In fluid width forum it not look good as look emply..

So what is best way to customize this section
