Forum/Thread Blurbs

This product is the result of a request from hugoroger to:

Say I wanted to add a custom blurb as an admin on the bottom of a specific thread to show on all thread pages for that specific topic only. How hard would that be? As in, I would just want to give some attribution for material discussed in the topic. I could add it to the posts, but was wondering if I could edit the footer of the specific page in question.

Overview:

This product allows you to define blurbs (a block of information) on a per thread basis. BBCodes are allowed in the text, and support is added for my BBCodes that require extra processing, which include:

You can select whether you want the blurbs to appear above the threads/posts or below the threads/posts. The blurbs appear in a collapsible element.

Version 1.2:

Version 1.3:
  • Updated to allow for excluding usergroups from seeing blurbs, on a blurb by blurb basis.
  • Stacked block titles separated by " - " string, and stacked blurb content separated by horizontal rule.

This is extremely useful! Thank you so much for this Mark!

Examples of usage for instance, if an admin is overseeing a discussion and would like to add a note, update, or he wants to add a warning or some type of information and does not want to trigger the thread or posts, this can easily be used to cover that need. Important specific pieces of information can be added to the thread without having to bump it.

As well as give attribution to work used in the discussion or to make disclaimers based on a specific thread, this is a fantastic option as it wont bump the threads and it wont interfere with the discussion and it will be easily visible across all pages in a given thread.

I just finished testing out the feature and it works flawlessly.

Question, the colors are defined in the XML right?

The colors are determined in part by existing vB class selectors and also by postbit stylevars. :)

Awesome! Yeah, that's what I was thinking too since I noticed it matched some colors but I wasn't sure! hehe thanks man!

Great job installed!
I should force the user to read the information before proceeding to see the link, this would be perfect if there was a check the confirmation box.
Can you help me Mark?

Am I guessing correctly, that these blubs "begin" with *threadid, and that everything that follows after is part of the blurb *until* another *threadid is entered?

Hmm...that would be an extensive addition, and I'm not sure it would be just a blurb then...the intent of this product is to simply allow you to display information within a thread, not force users to check a box before they can view the thread.

Yes, "blurbs" follow the format:

*threadid|blurb block title|blurb content (BBCodes/Smilies allowed)

Ok Mark would say that the app on my forum go okay!

A question

I should apply this warning to thousands of topics, you can apply it to a section?

Right now, it is designed on a per thread basis, however, I will soon add the ability to apply a "blurb" to threads on a per forum (or list of forums) basis.

I can't say when though, as I am in the middle of several projects at the moment. :)
