Help with Color Style
Hello All,
I am very new to VB and I have what I hope is a basic question. I've read through many threads (could be hundreds by now) and everyone here is extremely knowledgeable. However, I could not find a specific answer to my question. I have my edit site on>Edit Page>Color Style. What I am wanting to do is just change the background color to solid black so that the actual forum sits on top of it. How do I change the actual background to black? Will I lose my logos when changing it? I am running the forum as a two sided forum for two different brands. When I change the background, will it change the background for all of my pages so they are all exactly alike? The link to my forum is http://cnhitechnicianforum.net/upload/ Is that possible? I haven't saved any of the changes that I have attempted because I have inherited this forum here at work and I am afraid of rewriting my original template. Thank you in advance for any help! You have bigger problems than cosmetics because you are running a very old version and there are known security vulnerabilities that no security patches are available on old versions. I recommend you to upgrade to the latest version 5.2.3 asap!
--------------- Added [DATE]1473369580[/DATE] at [TIME]1473369580[/TIME] --------------- And why is the forum installed in upload directory? I think you uploaded the "upload" folder from the package instead of just uploading the content inside the upload folder. |
Yikes!! That is not good! Thank you very much for your reply and for noticing that! I have recently inherited this forum from a co-worker that has moved on.
You are right, I will need to fix this ASAP! Like I said, I am brand new so thank you so much for your assistance. When I am in my AdminCP and I click on "Latest version availabke: 5.2.3" and below that there is the "Click here to download vBulletin 5.2.3 from the Members' area" and when I click on that it brings me to the Members Area. Then in the upper right hand corner there is the latest version 5.2.3 with a link. I click the link and it brings me to a forum. Please tell me how to upgrade it? I apologize I am so new and have been reading on this for days. I will get caught up eventually! :) Amanda |
In the Members Area look for the "Download vBulletin 5 Connect' link.

Thank you. I have located and downloaded vBulletin 5 Connect. I then found these installation instructions:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...ll-vbulletin-5 I was able to talk with the person within our company who created this forum and he said he started it with version 5.X. I am thinking it is safe to assume that I do not need to worry about overwriting 4.X files and having the installation fail. However, I have the vb5 folder unzipped and saved to my desktop and now I have no idea what to do with it. I opened the zip folder and copied the 'upload' folder and put the 'upload' folder in it's own folder like step 4 on the above steps say to do. After that...I am clueless. The zipped folder contents that I got from the download are: do_not_upload upload index.html license_agreement.html vb5readme.html vb5liesmich.html QuickStartGuide_German.pdf QuickStartGuide.pdf The "upload" folder has been copied and placed in it's own folder as well. That is as far as I can make it. I do not know what files I am supposed to rename. I do not know how to go to the install directory of core in my browser. If there is any more help that you may offer I am very grateful to hear your advice for what I do next. Or, if there is another avenue that I may take in order to get this resolved? Thank you, Amanda |
upload everything in the upload folder to your webhost, overwriting all of the existing files. Once they are all uploaded go to http://cnhitechnicianforum.net/uploa...ll/upgrade.php to run the upgrade wizard

Excellent! I will do that! Or shall I say "try that?" :) It certainly gets me further along than where I am now.
Thank you! Amanda |
