Admin Privileges Problem

I have 2 admins. Both are mine. One was created at the time the forums were setup. The other was created, later.

ips (admin)
Mike (admin)

I have maticulously verified each, to verify they are both in exactly the same groups. And I have verified the individual permissions (default). Both are identical.

However, when I go to the vBulletin admin panel, ips sees everything, but Mike only sees a small subset of the controls.

How could that happen? BOTH are "admin" group. Both belong to the same groups. But only the original admin, has full access.

Suggestions?

So did you look under Usergroups > Administrator Permissions already? Also, in includes/config.php, there are some settings starting with $config['SpecialUsers'].

I'm not following you. They both have the same "administrator" user group. Whatever is there, applies to both users. Both are "admin" group. Both are members of the same group. Both use the group permssions.

There's a separate set of permissions just for administrators, and they aren't in the usergroup manager. At the bottom of the "Usergroup" menu (on the left menu bar in the admincp) is a menu choice "Administrator Permissions" that lets you choose the specific permissions for each admin.

Ah! I see what you mean now.

So that begs the question, why there are two sets of permissions. I guess I understand the general reasoning. Different admin rights to different people. But what is the more specific reasoning? Is there something special about that second group? Is there some general category or explanation for why that particular subset was broken out seperately? Just trying to understand the thinking there.

Thanks,

Yeah, I don't really know, it's certainly been that way since bfore my time. But I suppose if the administrator permissions were in the usergroup manager, you'd have pages of permissions that wouldn't apply unless the usergroup was Administrator.

The Super Administrator as defined in the config.php file is the only one that can set all other admin permissions. That's why.

You might also want to check 'access masks' as well

Max Taxable 07-17-2015 04:48 PM

That has nothing to do at all with administrator permissions.
