okay...
image that are inserted—using the "insert image" button—are handled differently in the postbit than those that are attached—using the "attachments" button.

I prefer the latter—that images come in as thumbnails that enlarge when clicked on. I also want to make it easier for my users to add them in that manner. Now, you have to "go advanced" then know to use the paperclip button instead of the picture button.

Has anyone tried moving the attachments function to the quick reply editor? Is there any reason why this might be a bad idea?

This will work for 3.8 to add attachments to your quick reply.
