Looking for tips to increase mobile friendliness

I want to work on the mobile friendliness of a site. Currently I have m.domain setup, though many users use the Tapatalk app to view the content (which means I'm not doing a good job with the mobile side of things).

I have these 2 vB settings set to my mobile style, but for some reason when I browse to domain.com on my phone, it doesn't go to the mobile style, not sure why:
Default Style for Old Mobile Browsers
Default Style for Modern Mobile Browsers

In the lightweight style options, I also have my mobile style set.

When I ran the Google Webmasters Mobile friendly tool, it fails.

It fails because it is loading the desktop version (shouldn't it redirect?), and I'm not sure why.

Any tips to improve what I have or change to something better would be appreciated. I need to radically improve the mobile usability on the site. Thanks for your time and help.

In Style & Language Settings,

Are you sure that you set
Default Style for Old Mobile Browsers
and
Default Style for Modern Mobile Browsers
to your default mobile style ?

Otherwise, you can covert your theme into responsive design as I did so you will not care about Google Algorithm update in 4/21 this month anymore.

Here's my forum https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...bmastersun.com

Is it mobile friendly?

Yes, both are set to my mobile style. Your site does pass the test, yes.

I notice when I go to your site on my mobile, it loads the desktop version too, but since your theme is responsive it loads fine. When I plug your site into the Google Mobile test, it shows the mobile site though. Interesting.

I guess the best bet is to make the site responsive. However, I am wondering why the mobile site isn't loading on mobile phones when both of those settings are set to my mobile theme. Any ideas?

yoru forum is responsive but your PORTAL is not ... you will need to make sure your PORTAL templates/styles are updated for mobile

Should I just redirect all traffic via mobile to the portal to the forum? Is that the best way of doing this?

Thanks.

for SEO and to improve user experience....
ALL PAGES (especially the main page) need to be responsive.
