Does classic shell start menu have anything running in the background?

I'm sure it does, how else is it going to function? It needs to take care of the start menu and such.

Its a process, just like any other added functionality.

:up:I put classic shell on my parents new Win8 computer just so they could actually use it. It's a good quality light weight app that gets the job done. They were ready to spend the money for a windows 7 downgrade before I installed it.:up:

ok i am using classic shell on the computer that does not have a touch screen. I like the metro stuff on the other PC that has a touch screen.

You only ever see the start screen for maybe 1% of your computer usage, I'd put that up there pretty high at that.

I like to still have access to the metro stuff so that is why i installed classic shell.

First off, I just read your downgrade doc from Microsoft. They would not have qualified under those guidelines even if we knew about them. I spent exactly half of one day on windows 8 and about put a bullet through my head. I had a hard time navigating it and every time I tried to do something, it threw up a screen full of tiles. Classic shell brought back the familiar look and feel and made the system bearable. Younger people may not have issues with learning new interfaces or adapting to new technologies, but some of us old farts don't like change and don't feel like we should have to.

I could not live with out my screen full of tiles :p
