Gamer Events

Upcoming Game Meetings Reminder

Gamer Events was an idea and custom project for EasyEazy. To keep the cost low for him we agreed to have this project public. As I seen there are a lot Game communities so I hope that it will be helpful for some of you. Otherwise I lost 200 Euros for nothing :D

DEMO: http://demo.teriakis.com/vb4x/myevents.php
There are testing accounts in the page header

1.- What's This?

It's an online schedule/reminder for gamers. eg If a user schedules a meeting at Jan 20th, 2014 he can add an event for this setting the player's name, the game, the date and time of meeting, a short description, and how many hours before he wants to get an PM reminder for the upcoming event.

There is also a "My Events" list where he can Edit/Delete Eevnts. This list has a nice interface and also a countdown timer.

Finally for those who have permissions to moderate there is one more list where they can see all events.

2.- Installation
  1. Upload the content of upload/ directory to your forum directory keeping the same file/folder structure
  2. Login to your admincp and import the file product-gamerevents.xml
  3. Check the General Options at: Gamer Events-> General Options
  4. The most important setting to have the countdown work ok is to set the time difference between your site and your server. If both are on the same timezone, let it the default 0.
  5. Set the usergroup permissions
3.- Important Settings

There are 2 settings that need more attention:
  1. Date Format. It must be like d/m/Y H:i or m/d/Y H:i or d-m-Y H:i . Please don't use any symbol to seperate time from date, or don't add "a" at the end to show am/pm. eg Format like: d/m/Y - H:i or d/m/Y H:ia are invalid event if they're correct for PHP. The date format is for use by DateTime picker which needs special format.
  2. Size and Server Time Difference. If your server is locating in a different timezone than the place where your site is operating, you must set the time difference so the countdown to work ok. The setting must be in seconds (1 hour = 3600 sec). If you're ahead in time then the seconds must have negative prefix (eg -3600). If your site is back than your server's time don't add any prefix, just the amount of seconds.
4.- Friedly notes
  • Please let my copyright link in place. Thank you. I lost 200 Euros just to be able to give you this addon for free.

Looks pretty cool Christos, gonna have to see if I can find a need for this.

So this wasn't quite what I thought it was.
If there was the ability for members to join the created event and then reminders sent to all joined members would be much more useful for us.
We schedule game nights or gaming events where we have 8 or more players at anyone time. You can then see who has joined that event and they would all be reminded of it.

As I wrote this is a custom project and my client wanted it to work this way. As I understood you need something different where admin creates events (game meetings) and members participate to these events.

This is great! I can see changing some of the phrases and adopting this for other events such as topic chat meetings, etc!

Thank you Christos!
