S-L-O-W post times! Frustrated !!!

After upgrading to vb5 about a year ago we have had nothing but trouble ever since. The most annoying problem is posting either new topics or replying to topics. A small dialogue box will appear neat the header that says "working" and it will stay there for close to 1.5 minutes. Sometimes it will post within 30 seconds or so, but that is not the norm.

Our tech guy has been unable to fix the issue, so I finally paid for a month support from vBulletin to get it sorted out. We are now about 3 weeks into the support plan and NOTHING! It appears vBulletin cannot figure out their own problem!

This issue has killed the participation in a (once fairly active) small community. Complaints are non stop... people who do post frequently double post because they are confused my the anomaly, and some eventually just leave out of frustration.

We have been with vBulletin since v3.6.x. We skipped v4 and bought v5 when it was available because of the future lack of support for 3.x. I wish we could go back to 4.x because I am convinced that 5.x is never going to work right if even the VB techs seem unable to fix our issue. I am told we would lose all of our content (going back over 5 years) if we were to do so.

Does anyone have any advice? Will we really lose content if we go back to 4.x? Are there other forums out there that we could convert our data base to work with?

I am extremely frustrated!

I am attaching a screen shot of an error I get frequently when posting. vBulletin has seen this screen shot, but even with this message they are unable to fix the issue.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Yes, you will lose content if you revert to any version, since you have to restore a database from prior to the upgrade.

The advice I have for you is hold out for 5.1.6.

Yes, I have seen that screen shot, and it provides no diagnostically useful information. We would need an AdminCP and ftp login to even start to diagnose the real issue behind that error message. Which I believe I've told you, a few times.

Have you got any server error logs to see more details about the problem

The issue is pretty specific to two causes: 1 Notifications (generating, and inserting them into the node table), and 2, notifications, of the email type.

Both issues are working on being resolved in 5.1.6.

I run a few vb 4 sites. Love 4. Tested 5 and it's just plain bad. Tested xenforo and I really like it. Honestly, I think your best bet is to switch platforms and import your vb5 data to xenforo. You won't lose any of the important content. (threads, posts, members, avatars, attachments, etc)

When is that going to happen Zachery? I gather you have figured out that I am a key person in the group that Tim is working with...

I was told when I paid for the support that this could be fixed! I am losing my confidence that it may happen that way. Seems if I am just waiting for an upgrade, I wasted my service contract. Is there a refund possibility? Guess you have another week to get it done.

As far as the permissions you want... Tim can make that happen for you. You can dig as deep as you want to... to get it fixed!

Can you point me to a vB5 install that works like it is supposed to so that I can see what we will get to eventually?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas

Thank you for the advice Tommy... If this isn't resolved soon, we will investigate.

The email notification fix, I have a patch for, the actual notification fix is much more complicated and has to be done for 5.1.6.
