PHP Issues

I have vB 4.1.7 with PHP 5.3

Unfortunately 5.3 has come to end of life and I need to upgrade to 5.4 however 4.1.7 won't run properly on that.

Is there any way of fixing this issue so I can upgrade to 5.4 without upgrading to vB 4.2 ?

Basically no. Not without a ton of work and a good working knowledge of PHP and vBulletin.

Sorry :(

Bummer.

OK, if I upgrade to 4.2 how much work is involved, is it simply a matter of copy the files to the server and away I go or is there much more to it than that?

I realise that some/most of the mods I have may not work properly/at all afterwards and I can live with that but just the basic upgrade, how complicated is that?

First backup your entire site, if you can. (I do this twice).

Then just follow the upgrade instructions included in the download carefully. It is very straight forward.

Upgrading is done by 1000's of people so it is not that difficult. A simple Google search on vbulletin.com and vbulletin.org will easily get you additional information if you have a problem. Please backup, and please follow the instructions!

The biggest problem we see around here is the board operator did not have or create a proper backup -- if something should go wrong. Don't be one of them.
