Vb3 DB and VB4

I want to first check how everything works out in vb4.. I currently have vb3 , but i want to open a test site to do this. Can I have the vb3 database in the vb4 test site? I want to basically have the SAME page load the same as vb3 and then start upgrading plugins and all to see if it works ok. If it can be done, the next question is HOW?
