Vbulletin 5 to 4.2 method

Hello,

I have a request from another person to downgrade Vbulletin 5 to 4.2. I know doing this directly is not an option but I do have an idea.

I was thinking it may be possible to export Vbulletin 5 to another forum script, hopefully a free one like Phpbb and then use Impex to import to Vb4.2 from there.

# - Does anyone know of any free forum scripts that will import Vbulletin 5?

Thanks,
Rich

I did a quick search and didn't see anything.
I doubt there is a free way to do it other then to restore your vb4 backup.

You could do it through IPB if you have a license.

Just use the impex and import into Vb 4.22 from VB 5

Yes, I know there are other paid forums I can export to. My question was for "free" forums.

It would make no sense to buy a license for another forum script only to use it to import to Vbulletin 4.2..

Actually the cloud version of IPB is not that much for a month. Is it possible to import to Vbulletin 4.2 from the cloud version of IPB?

i used a null ip.board to do all my converting back to vb3 from vb4. and of course ip.boards have the best convertor there is. i couldn't restore a 3 month old back up, it just had to be done this way, i ended up buying ip.boards in the end anyway. and lol at using impex :D

Right, I realize you probably already thought of that, but it would still be cheaper than hiring someone to code a converter.

Looks like a yes if you don't mind moving the database to their server: http://community.invisionpower.com/t...xport-ability/

Install IPB 3.46 and converter and import to IPB, then import to vb 4.22.
Guaranteed will work. That' how I did it when vb 4 was still beta. Worked everytime.
You may loose some password salts along the way but with the IPB converter is, more advanced and better than impex, so passwords should be fine. And yes the IPB converter has option to import from VB 5

I've a demo IPB 3.4 installation at http://www.microhellas.com
If you want I can give you temporary access to do this conversion.
