Much of the frontend is hardcoded?

While vB5 has insane amount of classes that can be extended to achieve a lot of things, when it comes to front end, things seem to be hardcoded in the js files especially content type codes. For example, /js/content_entry_box.js

So is there any easy way to workaround that or are we talking about file edits in a massive number of js files (which is worse than editing php files imo)?
