Shared Hosting suitable?

Would a forum that has a consistent 60 users online at all times handle a shared hosting plan from Namecheap?
I just feel like I'm paying too much right now ($20/month. It's a VPS) for my forum.

My site has an average of about 75 -150 members online every day and I use hostgators business plan and I have no problem ...it's also cheaper that what you are paying right now ... I pay $179 per year ...

Personally, I would never go with shared website hosting. A VPS is much more stable and you have way less limitations.

Also I consider a shared host as less secure, if someone were to get root on the server, this person can cause horrible damage to all websites on that server.

I have 2 dedicated servers and it is more expensive but it allows you to add all your sites, client sites, test sites..what ever all in one place. I haven't been on a shared host in many years and the reason I switched in the first place is because my host at the time was shutting down my account when ever I did a mass email.. No such worries now.

I suppose if you have a smaller site and a good shared host you can get away with it but I have not had luck in that area.

There's two sides to this pancake. If you're going to be long term and get lots of traffic and are monetized to where some of your expenses are covered, you want at least a VPS.

If this is just a passing thing, a fad or a hobby for you, and don't plan on mass membership and posting, you're better off with a good shared hosting.

As far as the traffic you have now, any decent shared hosting can handle it and much much more.

You can get a small VPS for $5 month, or a bit better one for $10 a month.

I run all my test & dev systems on a $5 VPS.

This is my situation. I have almost ZERO membership and practically NO traffic. My hobby is doing the graphics and tweaking the site. I just paid less than $100 for 4 years of hosting. Sites never down, runs smooth, and I couldn't be happier. For almost 6 years prior to this new host I was paying about $200 a year for the same thing. I know it's not a lot of money but as long as it supports what I enjoy doing, I'm going to stick with the dirt cheap.

BUT, If I had say 50+ members on a regular basis, I would not settle for anything less than VPS hosting.
