Users changing their email address
I got a message from a user today saying that they put their email in wrong and they can't change it to get the activation code for their account.
Can she or do i need to get a mod? |
Just have them send you a regular email to your administrator and update them manually. Then they / you can update their email account in the "user control panel".
You can also just delete their account and have them re-register. Did I miss something? :) |
no, i am just wondering how many people do this and then realise they want to use the site, go the change their email and can't and then just leave
|
I doubt many people are daft enough to type their e-mail wrong, and then retype it wrong again in exactly the same way.
|
Quite possible for a person who suffers from dyslexia..

I know i've been on some forums where i've registered and cant post without email activation. But used another email account instead so i don't get junk mail.
Many reasons why |
Yeah, well, and what do you propose vB should do if you deliberately cheat the system? If you use an e-mail you can't access, you can't change your e-mail, that's the way it is and that is the way it is supposed to be. If you want to allow cheating, then just disable e-mail authentication.

Thats not at all what im suggesting lol i am suggesting that there be some way a user who is trying to cheat the system, realises they can't and decides to change that email address to their actual one so they 'can' authenticate their email lol |
Not making light of your situation, that is really what contacting the administrator is for. One thing I do on my forum's (although I cannot tell you off hand on how I did it, but it wasn't difficult) is if they had a partial registration where we could not register them, we lock them down into a registration confirmation forum, where a two-way private dialog can be established. Actually, now that I think about it, there is a MOD out there to do something similar, although I have never tried it.
I have probably seen 10 or more times where a user has typed the wrong email in twice. So you are right, it does happen. I am just not going to worry about it too much. :) |
