How to encourage members upload their avatar?

Hello,

Are there any ways/mode how to encourage members upload their avatar?

I think if members use their avatar on forum, it will be better for looking

Any shares

Just use a default avatar that looks nice with your style and does not stand out.
Some folks do not use an avatar -- notice my avatar here. :)

I use a notice and it works great. Since using the notice all new members upload an avatar shortly after joining.

Cool! I am applying this mod for my forum http://www.webmastersun.com and feel good with it. I'm wondering if someone can register and test it showing a notice on top header, under forum statistics ?

:)

Make the default avatar show any and everywhere you can (Zachery/GeekyDesigns has a default avatar mod btw and one or two others too if I recall correctly) but ensure it shows the default avatar. Now take that default image and make it something funny but also "meh" and by that I mean - Make some really nice custom avatars, ones they will see and go "ohh wow I would like to have one of those" and then the default one is a silly frown smiley face w/ a mustache or something, it would scream "replace me" but still not look odd on the forum as it should match the style in a sense but the new avatars would be spot on and make them want to replace it.

Other ways to do this but I've found that making them see a "meh" image inclines them to replace it sooner rather than later and the default white/grey silhouette does not prompt you to, want to do anything but read a drivers education manual because it reminds you of a street sign related to pedestrian crossings :p.

Edit: Moved from Community Review to Community Lounge .

Or even use a gravatar mod from here, that waythey get a default avatar based on their email address or they can go to Gravatar and upload one they want to use.

I think gravatar is better to use for wordpress, instead of vb, right?

That depends on you, if you check any thread at my site www.thecodecage.com/forumz you'll see that users are automatically given an gravatar or they upload their own avatar, I don't know why you'd think it's only good for wordpress?
