Upgrade questions.

I currently have Vers. 4.1.7

If I update to whatever the latest version 4.2.? what will happen to the changes and mods I have installed?

I understand that some mods might not still work with a new version and so on but my question is more general than that. I believe that during the upgrade process ALL the vB files are replaced with new ones. I'm assuming that, if this is the case, EVERY mod or change I have made will disappear. Is that the case?

All files are overwritten, not replaced ie the old ones are not removed. You will also need to update your styles. You might not have to update all plugins

I only have the default style so no problem there I assume.

So, if any mod I have installed has changed a template there is a possibility that, after an upgrade, that template may have been overwritten and, therefore, the mod won't work.

Have I got that right?

If you post a link of all custom plugins and will see

I'm not sure what you mean by a link to the plugins but would a screen shot of the plugins manager page in the ACP show you what you need?

sure it just means if i dont have them installed i will need to find them myself so i can read

Huh, what's that supposed to mean? Overwriting and replacing means pretty much the same, and of course the old file versions are "removed", i.e. they are no longer on the server. Or do you mean addon files? They are neither overwritten/replaced nor removed, they stay just as they are.

No, because templates are not stored in the file system, they are not files. Your templates stay untouched, but you may have to make adjustments.

That is not what i said or meant

Yeah, but I don't understand what you mean, and that's why I'm asking. The OP obviously does not know his way around upgrading, and I find what you wrote very confusing. That may be just me, but again - that's why I'm asking.
