Best thing you can do is stay with vb4 as vb5 is still in beta

Correct. vB5 is crap, in my opinion.

But this has been wrong for well over a year, and given how much you're around here, you must know that, too. So why tell such (sorry) bs? It's not even true for vB5.1.

Ahh very true, it's not in Beta.

As for some, it's perfect for them as they don't need much however of the few issues I've worked on for clients running vB5 the issues are in fact ISSUES. I mean the ones that make me even scratch my head sooooo with that being said, that is why some might still feel like it's in Beta because they feel like all that "trouble" should label it so which is not true as I've come to find out. Does everyone run into these issues? No and usually they are quite odd and not seen on other sites running the same version (despite being on an identical hosting account with the same host) as I've ran into a few issues and had to refer them back to vBulletin Staff for assistance.

Remember, vB5 is perfect for most and not for others and it is slowly improving with each release just like vB4 did in its fiasco heydays so if you're unsure, setup a test site and see for yourself... you may walk away loving it .

Ok now back on topic LOL...

Hirebuysell,

Here is an excerpt from Mert's blog page (no longer available online since the site is gone now) hopefully these basic rewrite rules will assist:

If you have your thread rewrite rules set as forum-name/threadid-threadname.html use the following .htaccess
Code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule [^/]+/([0-9]+)-[^/]+\.html http://www.domain.com/forums/showthread.php?t=$1 [L,R=301]

If you have your thread rewrite rules set as forum-name/threadname-threadid.html use the following .htaccess
Code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule [^/]+/[^/]+-([0-9]+)\.html http://www.domain.com/forums/showthread.php?t=$1 [L,R=301]

RewriteEngine on

If you were running a custom/non-default heirarchy type of url structure then it still might be possible to rewrite with normal .htaccess however some custom setups were just that and might require installing DBSEO to make it function properly so with that being said make sure you do not uninstall the data from vbseo (disable the mod for now) until you decide because if you uninstall now then there will be nothing for DBSEO to import i.e. the url heirarchy structure and such.

Hope that helps!
