Attachments in Quickreply Mod?

This one seems so obvious, but I can't seem to find a mod to do it.

I want the ability to add attachments in Quickreply. Currently it allows me to do images, but not attachments, which seem rather odd. (Why one but not the other?!?!)

I used to be able to do this. I don't recall if it's a mod, something I hacked or what. In any case, it broke with 4.2 and I'm trying to find a way to add it back in.

You should be able to upload either an image or a file if you click the little image/attachment icon. I just uploaded a text file in Quick Reply on my site.

Are you using this mod?

IMPORTANT FOR ATTACHMENTS IN QUICK REPLY :

This free version will not get the attachments in quick reply, It's only part of vBFoster advanced CKEditor, Part of vBFoster plugin : http://www.vbfoster.com/forums/showt...in-quick-reply
I only post it cause we use this mod, and there is no attachment option in the FREE version.

I don't remember if I'm using a mod, changed the default settings, wrote my own hack, whatever. I did it quite some time ago. I just noticed it's no longer working. I upgraded to VB 4.2.2 PL 1 and it only allows me to include an image, but not upload a file. (How stupid is that?)

rharbison 04-07-2014 12:48 AM

Since I couldn't remember how I had this working (at one time) I asked over in Vbulletin.

Zach replied and said

Not by default, it would require a third party addon.
I don't recall buying that mod, so apparently I hacked it myself at one point.

In any case, according to the info for the above mod, it breaks at 4.1.4, the same as my hack did. So it won't work for what I need.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Uninstall the mod?

rharbison 04-11-2014 02:34 AM

Lynne, when I upgraded to version 4.2, the "mod" went away. I suspect I'd hacked a template at one point to make it work rather than it being a true mod. I run several forums, and I checked in one I hadn't upgraded and didn't see a plugin or anything obvious.

However... I run a photography forum and I really want folks to be able to upload photos in quickreply. I think it's rather stupid that you can attach a photo by a link but not upload one, and I strongly feel that it gives many folks the mistaken impression that's the only way to add photos.

I want to add the option in quickreply, and per Zach, (he should know) that's not a supported feature in VB. Am I the only one who thinks this would be nice to have?

Well, either Zach doesn't know, or more likely, he didn't understand what I was asking.

It turns out it wasn't a mod at all, but a setting in the stock VB. It was also apparently conflicting with the asset manager.

Solution? In settings turn off "asset manager" and be sure "Advanced Insert Image Popup - Enable" is set to yes and you should be good to go!

OK, final final answer. LOL!

To fully restore the functionality, install this patched version of uploader.swf and turn the flash based asset manager back on. Things will then be restored to the way they were.

Why VB couldn't have done this is a mystery to me. Love wasting my time on crap like this...

rharbison 04-19-2014 05:43 PM

Well, that didn't last long...

VB 4.2 PL 1 broke this. With the modified version of uploader.swf, the images SEEM to work. While editing they show up in the post just fine. However... When you save the message, you only get a link to the attachment, not the image. After a short while, the attachment link no longer works.

Anyone else seeing this? Anyone got a solution?
