i want to do my site like this

Just saw this website and i want mine like that.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/

Can anyone tell me how i'd do this.

At the top is a scrolling clickable image
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2014/03/33.png

Is it a custom widget or is it something built in that i can do?

Also, this for us would be 'find your ideal dreadlocking method'
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2014/03/34.png

And this, the registration widget would be great
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2014/03/35.png

Also, just the general style and feel in terms of the layout fonts and everythings is really smooth.

Any help, info, tips very much appreciated!!

The stuff you are asking is not a vbulletin forum they use vbulletin for their forum but their main site could be Joomla, WordPress or Drupal.

And it is almost 2 MEGAbytes of pageload.... and loads slow.

Here's the breakdown.

Yeah that all just looks like fluff, that will not do nothing for the site overall, best to have good content. :) But I bet you can do the first image thing with this mod, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=277166

Caching.

5.4 seconds on a fast cable connection using IE 11 is slow.

Does not take that long to load for me more like 2 sec's or a bit less in Firefox or IE this is on a 16mb line

You can run the test on several browsers, several connections. None of them cache pages so, what you get there is real and objective, not subjective. If it says 5.4 seconds it is 5.4 seconds, for that browser and that connection, at that time. The speed might vary a little for different times.

It's a 2mb page. That doesn't vary. It is bloated.

Worry about page load times later for your own site the folks at BodyBuilding.com can worry about theirs :p. For now lets get back on topic which is summed up with "How do I make my site look like that, it's awesome" pretty much ;). I believe Elite is correct they use something else to power the main site, you can just tell it's not vBulletin then view the source code to confirm. So this is one of those times you say, am I using the right thing for my front-end? If you feel a change is in order then looking into different CMS systems may be what you should do.
  • Can you make a vBulletin style resemble their site? Yes but it would take some work.
  • Can you create widgets or forum sidebar blocks for login to use on your forum like on their cms system? Yes but again a little work involved or not, I believe there are free template mods and such on here showing you how to do that if I recall correctly.

had a look at the source code but couldn't pin point the exact site.

I have had a look at a couple of other CMS platforms to do this. Its now a case of working out which its going to be the most cost effective and best results to weight it up.

its getting a bit overwhelming tonight, so im gonna sleep on it now. Been playing around with vB CMS.

expect i'll have to find some developer who can give a quote at some point for all the different mods/style changes to make it do those things. urrg... bed time
