Installing a new 4.2.2 forum, what should I be editing/adding

Hi all,

It's been a few years since I installed a new forum, as all my other vb forums pretty well run themselves these days, and I have not downloaded any mods in quite a long time.

So I was curious, what top have mods do members install these days, I could just go to my product page on my older ones and install those, but maybe something newer and better have come out.

So what do you install?

Obviously a spam blocker, and a new style, but if you had to be starting over with a new install, what 5-10 would it be?

Do you have a checklist of must dos before making the forum public (mods or not)

I know I could just search all the mods myself through number of installs, but I was hoping to save some time and ask you guys, the ones that are still around and have tested/installed some of these.

Thanks

Personally I evaluate what mods are appropriate for the type of forum and then decide which of them are necessary / will actually enhance the users time there. The simple principle is best, and with less mods = less 3rd party stuff on the forum with the possibility of screwing things up.

Like you said, anti-spam is the priority. I have just Glowhost Spam-O-Matic and Spambot Stopper working and haven't had any spam since install (minus one human spammer got through, but posts got moderated automatically by the programs). Ozzy47 has a good post on his own forum though if you need something more secure.

Besides that I haven't got anything too fancy. A default avatar mod, a few mini mods and the Advanced Post Thank / Like mod from DBtech (my users have enjoyed being able to like posts - and I'm just trying to use some psychology employed by Facebook to get users active).

Really depends on your demographic and needs
