Anyone know how to do this on google?

So i've noticed in search listings, the results look different for different websites.

This is the result on a festival search that has multiple options under it

Friendly URLs & Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs in admincp.

No, it has nothing to do with the type of URLs or whether you use mod_rewrite. I have a basic 3.8 site using the out-of-the-box URLs and my site looks like the site in the first image on google (site name and six areas linked under it). This is something google itself controls. I think it has to do with the amount of traffic going to your site and the most popular forums or areas on your site.

these are called Sitelinks

Google will only show sitelinks for results when they believe it'll be useful to the user. If the structure of your site doesn't allow for their algorithms to find good sitelinks, they will not show them.

so its nothing we can set in the webmaster tools?

It is all dependent on how relevant your site is to the search. If it's the most relevant you will usually get the display...

html 5 microdata helps too.

Structured data breadcrumbs from data-vocabulary.org will help too. :)

Does anyone have a more detailed guide on how to attempt to get this?
I am also very interested as my website doesn't stand out on google as it lacks this. Would be much appreciated.
