login with custom vb4 page from different domain
 

Hi mates,

This may sound weird, but I was wondering if I can login with custom login page on a domain and then after the login the page redirects to another page... I will explain in different way as below:

custom login page on https://www.forexmegacashback.net that contains SSL and then whenever the user logged in, the page redirects to www.forexmegacashback.com

Is there a way how to do that??

Sure there is a way to do it if you code it right. Do I have the code... um, no. You may need to hire someone to do that if you can't code. (This is the programming discussions forum where users post their code and ask for help with it.)

it is the same code used for the login at vb board. I just want it to be separated on a domain and then whenever a user login through that page, it redirects to the vb forum on the other domain.

I want to do this because I have an SSL on the main domain while the other doesn't have... and this is why I'm asking for such thing...

I will go around to check if I can do that myself though.

It's probably not trivial since you can't share cookies across domains.

I believe you are right, but how about if the webserver is the same?? wouldn't that work in this case??

I was thinking of using some plugin at vb org which is I believe VBSSO hack... if that plugin can be used to let a user login from domain.net and then get redirected to domain.com where the vb board is installed... I guess that should work as in theory no issue...

you may say database authentication with a user, as I recall the database on my server is connected to different domains I own because they all reside on the same web server...

what do you think?? any idea??

No, it won't. Cookies do not reside on servers, but in browsers, and no modern browser allows cookie sharing across domains for security reasons.

I don't understand what you ask regarding database authentication. Of course the login happens against the database, but you need the cookie (or session) to keep logged in. As soon as you lose the cookie (or session), you'll need to log in again.

You'd need to find a way to authenticate your external pages against the domain the forum runs on.
