Time zone viewer restriction

A while back I used an add on that let me restrict certain time zones from viewing my site. I've done several searches on this site trying to locate it but nothing like I ran is showing up.

Anyone know the add on I'm speaking of?

What is the idea about this?

You can easily check a users timeoffset in the user array and then do a print_no_permission() but that seems like it'd be complicated. What if a user goofs and sets it accidently, what would you want to do?

It allowed me to exclude any time zone other than those in the USA. I don't want any foreign viewers/members.

No it doesn't. -4 to -10 includes a lot of timezones in North, Central, and Southern America.

What if someone is from the USA but wants to contribute but now lives in UK/Euro Land? What if someone prefers that their times display in GMT0 (for whatever reason).

What if someone makes a mistake, how are you going to handl that? If you let them change their profile to update their timezone, your entire plan is a bit silly, since they could just keep trying timezones until it works.

I'm aware that the USA's time zones are not inclusive to our borders. I don't care about whether they could just "keep trying timezones". At least it won't be as easy as it seems to be by using the system vb comes with. Those trying to gain membership on my site are all out of the timezones that are in the US.

BTW, I'm speaking of an add on that I got from this site. It worked for me then, it will work for me now. I'm just trying to locate it. I'm not open for discussion on whether or not it's a good idea. What's been proven good enough for me may make you think silly thoughts about me even caring about your opinion.

You took this post off topic. I would like to keep it on target.

Thanks you

Might be what you're thinking of:

So, discussion of a modification, how it has ramifications to you/your community, and the potential that I'm already sitting on the code, and want you to understand how it would work is not ontopic? Okay then. Good luck.

That's it Max! Thanks so much. I was beginning to believe maybe I was in a bad dream :)

I think he is looking to block registrations by time zone, to be able to disallow parts of the world where most spammers originate.

If I'm not too much mistaken.

I dunno how this ports to vB 4, if at all. But it's the first one i thought of when i saw your post. I had tagged it previously, made it easy for me to go back to.

Normally I will leave things marked as installed but, with the transition from the 3 series to the 4 series, I unchecked all the items I had for the old vb3 series.

Wasn't "my" plan.
It's a mod that was submitted and that I used once and will use again.

I've got what I need now (Thanks to Max) and I consider this thread closed.
