wysiwyg image upload

I'm having a strange problem when trying to insert images in a forum post. The box pops up and when I select the basic uploader it works fine. With the wysiwyg uploader the box also shows up but the nothing happens when I click on the button insert image.
Changing from swf to ajax in the cp resulted in the same thing.
I'm using vb 4.2.2 and I tried:
- uploader.swf is blanked and in cp changed to ajax upload -> not working
- uploader.swf is replaced with the original -> not working
- uploader.swf is replaced with a modified one -> not working
- checked all settings regarding images upload... all seems tot be fine according to all the info I found in different forum topics.

When inserting an attachment/file it works fine, in all cases, with or without uploader.swf of ajax

Also installed the mod for the multiple uploads after the change of uploader.swf and made the adjustments necessary. But I'm only able to upload 1 image at a time but it reads max files: 7

my site is doing the same thing - it worked a couple of weeks ago??
