Timed Usergroup

I have searched but don't think it exist.

ok.... Many of you have on your site, ads. You also tell your members that if they become a premium member the ads will no longer show and with that they can have a sig, larger avatar, larger pm storage, interact within hidden forums....ect... The list goes on and on.

Is it possible to have a link to Premium Usergroup where ever you want it added to allow members to click it to view the site as a premium member for lets say, 3 minutes. Once they click said link they would then see a table below the navbar telling them of the benefits of becoming a premium member, changing on each page they visit.
To me it would be better to show them what they will get if they become a premium member instead of posting it or adding screen shot and would be a great way to increase revenue for those that run their site as stated above.

This could have other uses....

Good idea?
What's your thoughts?

I don't believe I have ever seen such a mod. I suppose it could be done. By clicking on the button, they would be put into a temp usergroup, that has the same perms as the Premium group, then via a cron job, set to X minutes, they would go back to the original group.

Now you would have to store some info into the DB in order to do this. First, the original group they were in, and then their userid, so they can not click on the button again.

IMO I think it would be more hassle to code it than it would be worth.

when i ran an active chat forum years ago, i had a custom vbulletin page with full screenshots of what the style looked like without adds. i had what they get as VIP at the top, then screenshots of everything, then a pay now/upgrade now image at the bottom which lead them to the usercp payment page. just an idea to throw out there. good luck.

Have never seen this done.. Been using VB for years and years.

You could setup a fake version of the site, HTML demo.. It wouldn't work, but would give them a better idea than a screenshot, or talking about it.

I dig your "bada-bing" navbar style on your test site!

Sorry to those that replied, I did not see this until now, I must have over looked them.

That all depends on what it would be worth to have it done. ;)

Yes, I know of that addon/edit, but that's not the same as having full premium usergroup access to the site and all the functions the premium usergroup has to offer.
Giving a guest this type of temporary access instead of an image to see what they would get if they were to become a premium member would imo help gain more premium members thus creating more income.

I have done this... A great deal of work and a huge pain in the Keaster... still not the same and imo looks generic...
