Editing text in Notifications dropdown menu

I've searched in templates and google'd it, but I'm not finding where I can edit the text there. If I wanted to add a small 16x16 image before "Unread Private Messages", how would I do that? Where should I be looking?

Edit the phrase, unread_private_messages, and add something like this to it,

Code:

<img src="images/misc/forum_stats.png" alt="" />

So now it would look like this,

<img src="images/misc/forum_stats.png" alt="" /> Unread Private Messages
