Upgrading to new VB version
 

After a couple of years running 4.1 I decided to pull the trigger and upgrade to 4.2.2 to "enjoy" the benefits of the full CMS capabilities.

I have installed VB 4.2 as a test forum. Got all of the plugins tested, theme working and everything functioning satisfactorily.

I am ready to make this new version my "live" site but and unsure of the best procedure in doing so. My idea was to copy all of the "test" files over to my live site add the VB install folder, change the config file to point to the "live" db and run the upgrade script. Is this the best practice for this?

Also, what about the plugins? Most of the plugins from the "live" site will not be used and will get replaced with plugins that I have working on the "test" site. do I just need to re-install these or is there an better way?

What about the template? I have downloaded the template from the "test" site that will be used in the "live" site. Should I need to do anything else?

Sorry for the long winded question. I want to make sure that I am not overthinking anything and making it harder that it needs to be.

Best is to clone live site to test site run a upgrade on the test site see how it goes then when happy run back up on live site and then upgrade live site the normal way
