vB4 Blog - Unreasonable

I purchased vBulletin 4 about 2.5 years ago, and I've been running 4.1.2 since. I'd like to now incorporate a blog with the forum. So, after a bit of searching, I found that there is no blog modification for vB4, so I called vBulletin and asked if they have an add-on feature for blogs that I can purchase. I was told that I have to purchase vBulletin 5 (which I don't want) as an upgrade for $209 so I can have access to previous versions of vBulletin 4 so I can use the blog feature. So, I need to pay $209 to incorporate a blog onto my forum.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there a possible modification I can use or anything I can do? I have the ability to upgrade to 4.2 but I still won't have the suite package so I don't think it will help. Thank you in advance

Use wordpress in a sundomain, and put a link to it in your navbar, thats basically the same as VB4 then

Downside is the posts won't be linked to the vbulletin posts/threads. And the usernames won't share a database, so they'll have to re-sign up for the blog. Becomes too much of a mess IMO

Search for a bridge between vb4 and wordpress (I think there is a paid one?)

Maybe I am missing something here, so just in case I will cover all the bases.

Did you not want to use vb4 suite with the blog?

There's no point for me to pay $209 for a group of things I'm not interested in, but the small blog aspect. I already have vBulletin 4. I don't want to buy an entire suite for vBulletin5, vbulletin4 version access, CMS, and blog to only use the blog. So I'm searching for another method.

I understand. I just wanted to make sure you knew that was an option, no matter how obvious. We use a modified version of the vbulletin blog and we do not receive to many complaints.

Like @Lynne said, there is a few bridges out there to Wordpress. I did not want to recommend one, since I have not used any of them, but if you can't find them let me know and I will send you some links.

1.- Try a Google search "sell vbulletin license". You'll find lots of big sites where users are selling their vB license for $100 (sometimes less), as they moved to another forum. Just pay attention to be a vB4 Suite version which includes the Blog.

2.- If it's to pay $209 for upgrade is much better to pay $249 to buy a new license and then sell your old one. This way you'll save some money.

3.- "I have to purchase vBulletin 5" This is the marketing trick of IB to show that they have good sales for vB5, even if 90% of vB5 sales are from users who pay vB5 but they use vB3 or vB4.

Nick
