W3c Validation

I'm trying to get my site validated to W3c, but I'm getting 57 errors, I've only just started learning HTML and CSS, and I don't really understand the errors it's showing, has any one got their site W3c validated ?

I do believe their is some out there, but why is it so important? Your site runs just fine with a few eW3c errors.

To some extent W3c validation guarantees the site will work with all browsers. Any errors can cause problems with some browsers.

My site was W3c validated up until I think it was 4.2. Then a nested <ul> cropped up in the navigation menu and I've just been too lazy to hunt down why it's there. So, it now produces 3 errors because you can't have a <ul> in a <ul>. It should be <ul> <li> <ul>. Not <ul> <ul>.

Good point ( I've heard though I can't find it) that windows users can be refused access to sites that are not W3C verified, in their internet access settings.

Plus when I tried to verify it, the errors to me ( a novice in HTML) looked like simple HTML errors, but I didn't want to edit the files just in case I broke something.

I have never seen any sites I could not get access to due to W3C validations. If you are not having anyone report issues on your site, I would not fix something that is not broke. :)

Very true, but that logo would look pretty at the bottom of the forum !!

Yeah it would look nice, but is it really worth the trouble. IIRC I tried this quite some time ago, and I believe vB out of the box was not compliant. Don't quote me on that, as I am not totally sure, but I seem to remember something like that.

You are correct. As I stated in my post above there is an improperly nested <ul> in the out of the box navigation menu for vB.

Sorry I did read that, and didn't ignore it, my install 4.2.1 with a few plugins is producing 57 errors, all of them as I said appear to be HTML errors, which you would expect as I'm seeking HTML validation !

Are you getting 57 errors with the default vB style or a custom style you have installed?

If it's the default style, I'd disable all of your mods and then re-enable them one at a time to see which ones are causing the errors. As you find them, contact the author to correct the HTML problems with them.

If it's with a custom style, I'd contact the creator of the style to have them correct the HTML errors.
