Quick reply questions.

I have two quick questions concerning quick reply.

Pretty much everyone I have talked to regarding my forum is complaining that when they click to reply to a post that it sends them to quick reply, instead of the full (advanced) posting form. I looked in ACP but didn't see a way to change this.

How do I make it so that when they click on reply, it sends them to the full form?

Again, with the quick reply, whenever someone uses it and they click submit, a window pop-ups saying "Are you sure you want to leave this page?" No matter what click on it posts the message, but everyone thinks it is going to log them out and it's very confusing.

How do I get rid of this pop-up message? It doesn't happen with the full posting form. Thanks.

If you want to get rid of Quick Reply and have them use the full reply form, then just go to AdminCP > Settings > Options > Message Posting and Editing Options > Quick Reply > No

No, I don't want to get rid of it, just not make it the default like vB used to work long ago. I have it set to "click required" but it still goes straight to quick reply.

Then turn on yes, click required?

When it's set like that it defaults to the quick reply VS. the full reply.

I need it to go straight to full reply, when they click on reply.

So, when you click on the big post reply buttons, you want it to just send you to the full reply?

There are two reply buttons, one in postbit marked "Reply" and one at the bottom of the thread marked "Reply to thread". Clicking on either opens up Quick reply. At least one of those should directly open up full reply. I'm guessing the "Reply to thread" button should go directly to Full reply because when I turn off quick reply the post bit "Reply" button disappears.

Only then will the "Reply to thread" button work correctly. Ultimately I need to just turn off Quick reply since it's causing so many issues, especially with that pop-window that appears. Problem is I can't turn it off because then a hack for selective quoting also goes away. The only way I can think of to get around this would be to hard code some kind of "if" code for the quote button, but I've forgotten how do that, and if the quick reply worked correctly then I wouldn't need to anyway.

I think if I just turn off quick reply and put some kind of conditional around the quote button, then the quote button should still appear. Here is the code for the quote button (in red) can someone explain why it disappears when quick reply is turned off? It's supposed to appear next to the standard quote button.

Code:

<vb:if condition="$show['quickreply'] AND !$show['threadedmode']">
                                        <a id="qr_{vb:raw post.postid}" class='quickreply' href="{vb:raw post.replylink}&amp;noquote=1" rel="nofollow" title="{vb:rawphrase quick_reply_to_this_message}"><img id="replyimg_{vb:raw post.postid}" src="{vb:raw vboptions.cleargifurl}" alt="{vb:rawphrase quick_reply_to_this_message}" /> {vb:rawphrase reply}</a>
                                <span class="seperator">&nbsp;</span>
                                </vb:if>
                                {vb:raw wog_quick_quote_button}
                                <vb:if condition="$post['replylink']">
                                        <a id="qrwq_{vb:raw post.postid}" class="newreply" href="{vb:raw post.replylink}" rel="nofollow" title="{vb:rawphrase reply_with_quote}"><img id="quoteimg_{vb:raw post.postid}" src="{vb:raw vboptions.cleargifurl}" alt="{vb:rawphrase reply_with_quote}" />  <vb:if condition="$post['forwardlink']">{vb:rawphrase reply_to_private_message}<vb:else />{vb:rawphrase reply_with_quote}</vb:if></a>
                                <vb:if condition="$show['multiquote_post']"><span class="seperator">&nbsp;</span></vb:if>

In case anyone needs it, here is the code for the quote button:

Code:

<a id="wog_qquote" href="javascript:wog_qq({vb:raw post.postid}, '{vb:raw post.wog_qquote_username}')" class="quickquote" rel="nofollow"><img id="wog_qquoteimg_{vb:raw post.postid}" src="{vb:stylevar imgdir_button}/trans_40b.png" alt="{vb:rawphrase wog_qquote_qbutton}" /> {vb:rawphrase wog_qquote_qbutton}</a>
                                        <span class="seperator">&nbsp;</span>

There is an article in the vB4 section on how to turn the Post Reply button to go straight to the advanced Post Reply page instead of the Quick Reply. Right now, if you double-click Post Reply you will get to the advanced post reply.

Thank you so much Lynne! I've been using vB products since almost the very beginning and I did not know about the double-click feature. Thank you for mentioning it. I will search for the article you mentioned.

Is there any way to address the annoying popup that occurs when someone tries to post from the quick reply? It doesn't happen with the advanced post reply, just quick reply. I have never altered quick reply so it must be something with the vB code, and so far I haven't found any browser that is immune to it. If I could find a way to get rid of that popup, and change the way the reply button works (from the article mentioned) then I think everything would be perfect :up:

UPDATE: Found the article that Lynne mentioned and it has fixed the one problem (thanks again Lynne) :up:

If someone could just help us get rid of that quick reply pop-up message then everything would be fixed :)
