sidebar images instead of avatars

Hi mates,

I spent the last few hours trying to find a proper code replacing the message icon with avatars on the sidebar and couldn't mange so far....

I want to replace message icons on the sidebar block when posting new thread so the latest threads block display message icon instead of the user avatar...

any idea how to do that??
