bbcode, why does it not work like the documentation?

What I'm trying to do is just change some font colors in notices, but cannot for the life of me figure it out.

I've seen reference to:

Code:

[ COLOR="#FF0000" ] [ /COLOR ] and this <color=red></color>

but neither of those work for me.

...also why does this not work [ B ] [ /B ](which is what I see documented) but this does <b></b> for bolding text?

Yes, all my setting for bbcode are turned on.

(spaces added in code to display)

Notices don't support bbcode.

Use normal HTML markup in notices - that works well.
