header icon/text alignment

I'm trying to get the icon perfectly left aligned / vertically aligned with "bookstore" link in the header template. I've tried vertical-align: middle, top and even tried (inside img code) float:left. Can't get it right.

Code I inserted is inside the toplinks div below

Another problem specifically on phones and tablets is the misaligned blue search icon on the top left. Not sure how to fix this.
