Change "private" to "registered members only" on forums

Hi Folks, Happy Holidays!

When you restrict guest access to certain forums, the VB system puts the word "Private" on the forum or forums. That doesn't really explain why the guests cannot read the forum, so I would like to change the word "private" to "Registered Users Only".

Can one of you smart people tell me what to change to accomplish this?

Thanks very much!

Nelson

The smart people are probably on holiday, but I'll try to help. You can change the text for the phrase called 'private', the only thing is that if it's used anywhere else it will change in those places as well. Anyway, to change that phrase go to Languages & Phrases > Search in Phrases, enter 'private' (without the quotes) in "Search for Text", set "Phrase Variable Name Only" and "Exact Match" to Yes, and press Find. Then press "Edit" and enter your text at the bottom in the "English (US) Translation" box.

Find phrase 'private' and edit it :D

It says "no matches".

Hmm...did you follow the instructions I posted above? If you just search for "Private" (without the quotes, and the default settings) do you find anything? You should find a bunch of phrases with that word in it. If you do, scroll down and see if you can find the one where that's the complete text.

Followed your instructions got no matches. Then selected various phrase types and a list of phrases showed up after the search . Could not tell which one was the one that showed a forum as private.

OK, sorry, maybe my post was worded wrong. So try this: enter Private in the "Search for Text" box, and for "Exact Match" (at the bottom) choose "Yes". That should find only one phrase (or at least it does on my test site).

Edit: and if it still won't work without selecting a phrase type, select "GLOBAL"

Finally, there was one that showed up only as "private". I edited that and made it "Registered Users". It worked for the forums that are not available to guest users. As you guys said, I don't know what else may also be affected, but, so far, so good. Thanks.
