Has anyone made a mod that you can set so that it starts a thread on a day set, so it can remind folks of an event?

For instance, an event on the calendar will post a thread, let's say, two days before the event so that it can remind folks of the event.

Or, an event can make an announcement on the day of the event.

Also, since the vB calendar sucks, has anyone made an enhancement so that color and other features are added to the calendar?
