"Default View Age" in Forum Settings - question

Does the "Default View Age" option go off the original thread date or the date of the last post in the thread?

Example: If it is set at two months, does it no longer display the thread after two months even if there was a post in the thread a couple days ago?

I don't have experience with it and haven't tested it, but looking at the code it looks like it's compared with the time of the last post in a thread.
