Do you have any code at all to start with? If you search this site (or even the whole net) for random ads in php, you can probably find it. As for putting it in a sideblock: you could use a "Custom HTML/PHP" type of block and put the code in there. There is one difference with using a forum block: the output needs to be returned as a string instead of sent to standard out (i.e., you *don't* want to use echo), so that might require some modification to any non-vb code you find.
