Recaptcha not showing on registration page
 

I can't reproduce this problem in my studio with IE8, 9 or Chrome/Firefox, but a user has sent in a screenshot showing the registration page without a recaptcha widget in the Image Verification area.

They are using IE8, possibly German because the user is in Austria. I tested turning off Javascript and that did not reproduce the problem.

Any ideas as to what would cause the entire widget to not display in IE 8 German or otherwise?

The question is, were they able to register and complete without it being there? it may be that their settings on their browser (although it's usually corporate ones) can block certain images, i know my corporate does it all the time, for the safest of images sometimes!

Did they try another browser or another computer? Could they have some add-on in their browser that is blocking it? Or something on their computer blocking it?

Simon Lloyd - No they were not able to register since submitting the registration page with a blank recaptcha phrase results in an Image Verification Error, which it rightly should do.

Lynn - those are good questions and I'm troubleshooting this with the user but they are not a high level user. I personally suspect its an IE add-on or some other security setting since I can't replicate it on my end. I can't find any setting in a default install of IE that would cause the problem.

I did find some threads on other sites about Recaptcha changes made after Google aquired them referring to a change to https:// address rather than http:// addresses somewhere in the API, but I'm not sure that's something we VB users can even access to change. Or is it??

It's bound to be a third party blocker like one for ads or pop ups, pop unders, it could even be that recaptcha.net or their ip is blocked by the users firewall...etc

I had similar thoughts. I have to wonder how many users have problems registering for similar reasons and don't report it before bouncing.

I don't use recaptcha i just use the built in q&a and a mod from here called vmail for vb3 and i have very few spammers, in fact i think i've only had maybe half a dozen in the last year
